Palliative Care Vs. Hospice

Your loved one deserves the best. That's why Olivenhain Guest Home is one of the few communities in San Diego County licensed to welcome residents through hospice and palliative care, without ever asking a family to move their loved one somewhere else. Families throughout San Diego County trust us as a highly rated place for their loved one to remain, supported, through this stage of life.

Palliative care and hospice care aren't the same thing. Palliative care focuses on improving quality of life and comfort for anyone with a serious illness, regardless of age or outlook. Hospice care begins once the focus shifts from treating an illness to comfort alone, helping someone live as fully as possible for as long as possible.

At Olivenhain Guest Home, our license allows us to support residents through both palliative care and hospice end of life care, right here in the home they already know.

Graceful Living

Our Graceful Living program centers each day around comfort and dignity for residents receiving palliative care. Our caregivers work closely with your loved one's physician, and with any outside palliative or hospice provider involved in their care, so daily support stays aligned with the medical plan already in place. We also partner with trusted, licensed hospice agencies throughout San Diego County, so your loved one can receive comprehensive hospice end of life care here in San Diego County without leaving our home.

Our licensing agency has granted us a 20-bed hospice waiver, the special license that allows a residential community like ours to accommodate residents receiving hospice care rather than requiring a transfer elsewhere. It's one of the reasons families throughout San Diego County choose Olivenhain when a loved one reaches this stage.

When your loved one reaches hospice care, there's no need to move them to a separate room or special wing. They can age in place while maintaining quality of life and dignity. At our Encinitas home, we have spacious rooms to accommodate added equipment needs, and the specialized medical equipment required for end of life care services is provided directly by your loved one's hospice team. There is also a beautiful dining and activity room for those who are able to use them.

We also offer daily rates for families who would prefer their loved one be comfortable in our home, surrounded by those who love them, alongside our attentive caregiving staff.
